Responsibilities: Oversees and performs various specialized and complex professional accounting/auditing work, including analysis of a variety of financial operations, accounting systems, policies and procedures; and the preparation of various kinds of reports. Implements, analyzes, monitors and evaluates a 100 million dollar multi-departmental budget. Prepares the SEFA, provides coordination of the capital asset reports, overseeing the fixed asset system, and provides technical assistance and support on matters of relating to county systems of internal controls. The incumbent also performs a variety of complex grant accounting and audit functions in accordance with GATA standards and other applicable regulations. Additionally, the position serves as the liaison with the external auditors and provides assistance/coordination with the countywide financial audit. This position reports directly to the Sangamon County Auditor, but works closely with the County Administrator, the County Board and all county departments.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in finance, accounting, or a related field; and (2) years relevant experience, or at least (6) years of full-time experience as an auditor, accountant, fiscal officer or other progressively responsible professional-level accounting/audit related position. Experience with large scale corporate or governmental budgeting, fiscal forecasting, long-range strategic planning, various accounting and audit polices and regulations.
Skills: The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge of recent industry trends and best practices relating auditing, fiscal management and governmental and/or corporate accounting. Knowledge of GASB and GATA Standards are a must. Must have experience with standard office equipment and software; experience with specialized industry software and programs a plus.
Benefits: work hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, FLSA exempt, 37.5 hours per week (monthly evening meetings required)
