Sangamon County Board Office Accepting Applications for Board Vacancy in District 2

Sangamon County Board Member Todd Smith announced his intentions to resign from the County Board after 16 years of service.

Smith said, "After much deliberation and discussions with my family, I have decided to resign from the Sangamon County Board at the end of May to focus on my private-sector business full-time. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Sangamon County. "

Smith currently serves as Chairman of the Public Health Committee and as a member of the Finance Committee. He previously served as Chair of Collective Bargaining and Community Resources.

Reflecting on his time in office, Smith said, "Sangamon County has always been my home, and it's been an honor to serve District Two. Thank you to my constituents for support and encouragement throughout the years and for allowing me to represent you. The board is filled with some of the best, and I will continue to call many of them friends. During my time on the board, I saw the daily work in our County and the dedication of our County employees to provide quality services to our community. I am thankful for the relationships and the positive change and growth we brought to Sangamon County."

Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy Van Meter thanked Smith for his service to the County, "On behalf of the Sangamon County Board, I want to thank Todd for his 16 years of service. He has always proven to be thoughtful, respectful, and willing to take on a challenge when they arise. There is no doubt that Todd will be missed, and there will be big shoes to fill when replacing him on the board."

The Sangamon County Board Office has begun accepting applications to fill the vacancy in County Board District 2. The application period will close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27th. The vacancy will be filled by appointment at the June 14th County Board meeting.
