John O’Neill was elected to the County Board in November of 2002 as the representative for the new District 26, which is part of the fastest growing area in Sangamon County.
John serves and has served on the following committees:
- Court Services Committee – Vice Chair and Past Chair
- Liquor Committee- Member, past Vice Chair and past Liquor Commissioner
- Election Oversight Committee - Member
- Finance Committee - Member
- Insurance Board of Managers – Past Member
- Building and Grounds Committee – Past Member
- OEM/911 Committee – Past Vice-Chair
- SCCDS/911 Board – Past Member
- Community Service Block Grant Committee - Past Member
John worked for the State of Illinois for more than 20-years and retired from the IL Department of Veterans Affairs, after working with veterans, veteran homes and veteran organizations statewide. John served as an Army Infantry Officer in Vietnam and Cambodia.
John attended Springfield College, graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and received his MBA from the University of Illinois.
John has been an active Republican for the past 40-years and serves as Precinct Committeeman for Chatham 6.
John and his wife, Carol have three grown children, one grandson and five granddaughters.
